Suzhou, often called the "Venice of the East," is one of the most rewarding day trips from Shanghai. Just 25–30 minutes away by high-speed train, this ancient city is famous for its UNESCO-listed classical gardens, historic canals, and charming water towns. This itinerary balances culture, cuisine, and scenery for a perfect one-day escape.

07:30 — Depart Shanghai (Hongqiao or Shanghai Railway Station).

08:15–09:00 — Arrive at Suzhou Station. (Book this station — it's closest to the sights.)

09:15–10:30 — Humble Administrator's Garden (¥80). Suzhou's largest classical garden — pavilions, ponds, bamboo.

10:45–11:45 — Suzhou Museum (free, book ahead). I.M. Pei design with traditional flair.

12:00–13:30 — Pingjiang Road & lunch. Canal-side street with bridges, teahouses, and local dishes like sweet-and-sour mandarin fish or soup dumplings.

14:00–15:30 — Master of Nets Garden (¥30–¥55) or Lingering Garden — both UNESCO, choose intimate or grand.

16:30–18:30 — Shantang Street. Ancient lane with lanterns reflecting on canals — stunning at sunset. Optional boat ride.

19:00 — Return to Suzhou Station for train back to Shanghai.
